“What I really look for in my work is how the use of raw, natural materials can resonate, respond and retort to human interactions on the contemporary world” Jason Deans
Jason’s work stands testament to contemporary post-truth rhetoric through structures of empire, austerity, and disenfranchisement. The use of natural, fragile and traditional building materials is paramount to generate discourse between globalisation versus identity and empire versus nation state self reliance nostalgia. Landscape is a pivotal theme and explored through differentiation of essentially marks on paper. An aesthetic reminder of the transference of geographical, economic and political dominance to leftover wistfulness of place and purpose.
Jason is a Dublin based artist who graduated from the University of Ulster in 2009 and achieved his BA in Fine Art from DIT in 2007. He has shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, including Draiocht Arts Centre, Platform Arts and Linenhalls Mayo. Jason has been resident artist with Draiocht Arts Centre and the Dublin School of Creative Arts. His art features in the Irish edition of the Imago Mundi collection.
